Reuben's Retreat

Reuben’s Retreat was founded on the 23rd August 2012 in memory of a very precious little boy, Reuben Michael Graham who sadly passed away in his Mummy’s loving arms on 21st August 2012, aged 23 months. Reuben’s Retreat’s primary goal is to create a sanctuary in Glossop, Derbyshire that will be a home-from-home for families coping with the serious illness of a child, providing respite breaks and the chance to build happy memories. This weekend we hosted our first sibling support group in collaboration with the STAR palliative care team in Manchester, seven children that have a sibling with life limiting and/or life threatening condition came to Reuben's Retreat for a day of fun.... arts, crafts, games, lunch and playing football & frisbee in the park were just a few of the activities we all enjoyed.
The benefits of this group are huge, often families that have a poorly child cannot always go to the park at the drop of a hat, there is often medication, feeds and oxygen to pack up and then the accessibility of the park can not always be guaranteed so a few hours in the fresh air and sunshine was a perfect end to the children's' day. Each child went home with their art work and also a photo of themselves enjoying their day.

Thank you to the children that attended for allowing us the honour of sharing in your magic memory making.

For more information on any of our support services please call 01457 680023.

Earlier this week I was desperate to see him and hear his voice - I sat back and logged on to our you tube channel and watched him. Absorbed every beautiful and gorgeous moment of him. Oh how I ache for him some days, missed beyond measure every day .... we start to reach many milestones now and breaking up for the Summer will always hold some sadness in my heart.
It will be five years this weekend since that awesome trip to Lytham with friends. I'm so glad we went and I am so grateful for all the times we had together and the fun stuff.
Our work is magnificent and I feel blessed to deliver such a beautiful legacy in his name.
As I shared earlier this week with new friends and support at Scenic and Emerald waterways, lots of people think we are finished and up and running. We are supporting families and 3 of 10 phases are complete, however, we still have a long road ahead and 7 more renovation phases of a multi million pound project to complete.
Our next phases, 4, 5 and potentially 6 will deliver much-needed activities for our families and include a place to change children with the facility, dignity and respect they deserve as few toilets exist with hoists and room to change an older child.
Please SHARE with your family, friends, loved ones, colleagues that we still very much need them and who do they know? who can help? assist? give? challenge? donate? share?
5 years has made quite an impact on a beautiful and historic building, to a community spirit, and most important of all to the lives of the 462 that we have supported. TOGETHER we can achieve and support much more.
Come be a part of #reubensjourney if you aren't already and please continue to help put smiles on loving families faces.
Our children are so precious, each and every one of them, unique, special, and wonderful.
And our families deserve the best.

Thank you for being a part of something so incredibly special

Another VERY busy day.
This morning we were honoured to be guests of the fabulous COOP at Angel square. As one of the team's 4 chosen charities.
We shared our fabulous experience alongside the esteemed Royal Manchester Children's hospital, Mind Manchester and Coppafeel.
It was a fantastic opportunity to share our cause with many more supporters and request the pleasure of their company aboard #reubensjourney.
I met some lovely people and will not forget my morning for many reasons.
Back to the office for a meeting with RB to look through the plans. A catch up with the landscapers delivering our entry and exit points. Then a fly by Lymefield to discuss our grotto in December.
Thanks to Lynne covering a WI meet tonight for me in Tintwistle, I was able to see this gorgeous fella receive his attendance award.
Captured here with his lovely teacher who is also incredibly supportive of RR and has a big heart too 💛
Yesterday was very special too, meeting the fabulous team at Scenic & Emerald waterways. Another incredible supporter of our work and vision. Love you Dawn & David for being so good hearted 💛💛
Thank you ALL so much for your wonderful support,
Always
