30 Mar – Tameside Advertiser Column

Posted by & filed under Uncategorized.

It’s Monday again…. and time to share our Advertiser column of the week…… serving the homes of Glossop and Tameside …. for those that no longer get a copy or a further afield…here you go ….

As I write the words for this weeks column we are exactly 2 years and 7 months old. How quickly the time has gone. How much we have all fun-raised. Supporting many families, like ours, along the way. And how our “miss” remains and how often I think of him and wonder what he would be like now.
This week we remember another Angel, little Angel Roxie would be turning 5 this week. We send love to her Mummy and to all those that miss her very much.
Thanks this week go to Patrick for his very kind 70th birthday donations, we hope you had a fabulous time Patrick and thank you for your kindness. Thank you Terry from the Lions club for arranging Marple garden centre, thanks to our trusted volunteers for supporting and also our lovely Lydia for her super hamper. Thank you Rachel for for your donations via Amdec and thank you to the lovely family of Gladys who donated in her memory.
Reuben’s Retreat will be built on an army of love and compassion. Last week I showed Andy from A-plant hire around phase one and also the big building. Having met Andy at one of our Elvis events back in November 2012, he pledged support then. Supplying us with a ton of plant equipment he has saved us many many pounds and more. Also way back when, another Gentleman came forward to help us out with servicing fire extinguishers. Thank you Alan for looking after our safety and also for the toys that you and the team kindly donated from Stalybridge fire station.
Last week Sally and I went over to Wrexham to present to 24 Thomson holiday shop Managers. They have chosen to support our charity across their area “Manchester South”. We went along to present to them and they were wonderful. Thomson is where I used to work, so it was lovely to see some old friends and familiar faces.
We also took a trip up to Tameside hospital to present to some of the teams up there. It was a huge learning for us both. It was also an opportunity to see how much our counselling support is very much needed.
Saturday I met our “musical friends” for a tour. A great bunch of friends that have taken their talents, love and voices to our project and raised lots of money.
Huge Congratulations this week to our “grafters” 3 of our dream team of design and build volunteers (photo) award winning Bill – Katie & Paul – who whoooooo !!!!!!
Last Friday I received a lovely phone call from the cabinet office. I am to be the honorary recipient of a “Point of light” award from the Prime Minister. It is for my services to the community. What a lovely call and award to receive. It made me cry. I wish I wasn’t doing any of this, i just want to be home with my boy. But it was lovely to hear of the news and it made me proud of all that we are all achieving in Reuben’s name. I don’t do this alone and could not do it without your love and support and the backing of a fabulous team and volunteers. Volunteers, this one’s for you !!!!
And finally, I wish many of you well this weekend as we approach the grand opening of the Cafe Seraphina – Good Luck Ladies! A fabulous boxing event from KO promotions, Dave’s retirement bash, our comedy night on Saturday at Broadbottom cricket club, Captains open day at Denton golf club – Thank you all for raising and supporting and last of all and by no means least, I look forward to hosting our Ladies at our 3rd beneficiaries pamper day for our Mums, courtesy of Reuben’s Retreat . Thank you in advance to our lovely volunteers that help make it all happen.
