Often, there is much more to our charity than meets the eye … here we have built community, team spirit, love, kinship, camaraderie and more… I only get to share snippets of Reuben’s journey with you… If I could record a day in our office and share it in bite size chunks, you would be in awe of the wonder that goes on. Blessed by generous souls, all those that grace us with their presence have something to bring and it is truly beautiful.
Today’s Tuesday flippin it challenge comes from Rachael, Reuben’s friend. Rachael spent many an afternoon at Sarah’s with Reuben and his face full of fun and food. Accompanying Rachael in these incredible challenges are parents that hold their own heartbreaking miss for their “Jamie”. For Elaine to get back on a bicycle alone is an incredible task………
Here’s their challenge and I would ask you to join me in wishing them love and luck in bucket loads as they hold Jamie in their hearts and raise for Reuben too………..
“I started running in Sept 2012 shortly after Reuben moved to heaven because I needed to do something to help. I joined a beginner’s course at local running club, Hyde Striders that got me from my couch to running for 30 mins. Over the next 2 years I entered several races from 5ks – half marathons all the while raising money for Reuben’s Retreat. The next step would be a marathon but I always said I would never run a marathon!!! In a moment of madness just after my 40th birthday I entered the ballot for the London Marathon because if I was going to do a marathon it had to be London!!! Come October and the sorry you didn’t get in magazine arrived I was slightly relieved and slightly sad. A few weeks later a friend from running club, Chris, rang me to say he had won a Lucozade competition and had a place in the London marathon, Yeah!!!! But he went on to say his lovely wife Elaine had also won a place and wanted to give it to me!!!! Yikes!!! I received this phone call while at Sarah’s house, Reuben’s childminder, a sign? Who knows! But I knew one thing I was running the Virgin Money London Marathon for Reuben!!!! Team Sunflower was born!! Team Sunflower are raising money for Reuben’s Retreat in memory of Elaine and Chris’s son Jamie who tragically died following a cycling accident at the age of just 17. Chris and I are doing the running and Elaine is going to combat her fear of cycling and get on her bike from Morecambe to Bridlington. Tackling The Way of The Roses 170 miles. If you would like to sponsor us our virgin giving page can be found here ” – Rachael http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/…/showFundraiserProfilePage…
THANK YOU CHRIS, ELAINE, RACHAEL and Kisses on the wind to Jamie, that lives with Reuben
