Supporting families of complexly poorly children and families of child loss

Too good for earth, needed in heaven!

Who are Reuben’s Retreat?

Reuben’s Retreat is a charity that was born in memory of Reuben Michael Graham who tragically passed away in August 2012, aged just 23 months.

Desperate to ensure his short but precious life was not in vain, Reuben’s Mummy Nicola started the charity to help other families walking a similar path. Reuben’s Retreat is a home-from-home for families bereaved of a child and for children with life limiting or threatening conditions and their parents and siblings.

We walk side-by-side with individuals to whole families so they are not alone, providing support that is specific to their needs including therapeutic activities, counselling, drop-in and peer support groups, plus fun times, memory making and short breaks. As we renovate and develop the charity’s forever home the scope of our services will grow and enable us to support even more families in need.

The Retreat

Reuben’s Retreat became the proud owners of what was formerly “Woods Hospital” on the 23rd April 2014. Originally a 21-bedroom ‘cottage’ hospital it was still in operation as recently as 2011 when part of Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust.

Our Team & Trustees

We are a small hard working team of full and part time staff, greatly supported by our dedicated volunteers.

The Trustees are driven in their desire to raise awareness of the charity and its work with families in need, whilst encouraging and assisting staff and volunteers.

Our Impact

We are proud to have supported more families than ever throughout the last year, providing numerous activities such as counselling, peer support, family fun days, bereavement support, short breaks and more. All of which allow our families space to ‘Relax, Re-charge, Remember and Re-build’.
