June 2016 – Afternoon Tea and first slates…

Posted by & filed under Uncategorized.

On the 7th June Nicola placed our first slate back on the roof, engraved with Reuben’s name and with love from myself, Daddy and Isaac.  It was LJ Roofing’s idea and a lovely thing to be able to do in memory of Reuben.  It gives you an insight into the kind hearts that are currently working our project, a great team of Gentlemen showering our roof with their compassion and support.

Great news that the date of our July “Afternoon Tea” at Glossop Golf Club has sold out so we’re into full prep for the second of these wonderful events which will be held on 11th of September… A poignant date for us as it’s the day after Reuben’s birthday, he will be 6 this year.

Magnificent, magical, memory making were just some of the words to describe the atmosphere of our first “ReuBall”, a combined event for our charity and to celebrate the 50th birthdays of 2 dear friends and supporters.  The evening went without a hitch, and our 330+ guests had a great time. Our first ever official #REUBall raising just shy of £10k and bigger than this, we also trended on twitter behind #pride2016 and above #brexit in 2nd place, amazing!  Our theme “A night on Broadway” was a hit and in true Lion King Style, you could feel the love that night and my heart was full to the brim with the pride of a lioness.  A big thank you to the incredible team at the Village in Ashton, Steve and the team at iCatching, cupcakes from Emma, a candy cart with thanks to my Wendy House and classic cars parked expertly at the red carpet thanks to John and Mike.  Our Musical Friends belted out a fantastic Lion King medley in memory of our gorgeous friend Jamie, Jo Farrow and Alan Drayson sang super Broadway hits too.  Our patrons went head to head auctioning off 2 team football shorts and LJ Roofing launched an initiative with engraved slates.  We also have Aspen travel and Club Med to thank for a great accommodation giveaway.  Neil tapped into his Sister’s expertise at Browns cakes of Rochdale and supplied a beautiful 50 days of fabulous birthday cake and friends Zena, Miles, Helena and Denis supported our football auctions.  Serena produced beautiful artwork and graphics. It was such a success that we’ve booked again for next year on the 7-7-17!

Sending thanks to lots of kind hearts this month, to name just a few… Ruby and Isaac for pledging at our open days to collect 20ps in a Smartie tube, Rosemary B, Rachel Jiggins, Sharon Harrop and Glossop Methodist church, Karon Edmunds, Capstone Financial Management, our Gee Cross fete volunteers, The Wheatsheaf Old Glossop, team Hannon Holmes climbing Ben Nevis, Peels Arms, Harewood Arms Bob and Irene, Mamma Mia Hollingworth, Glossop Golf Club and their Captain Steve Hayes.  I would also like to thank the lovely Denise and Caroline for donating in memory of their Dad Denis.  We were very touched by this, and I thought of our friends on Fathering Sunday that had Dad’s in heaven, or like us, had Angel children xx
