We always knew that 2019 was going to be mega busy from the get-go, and normally we thrive off of the pace. But it saddens our hearts when the demand for our support services spike, because what that means in real terms is that there are more families facing the most heart-breaking of times.
23 days into 2019 and we’ve already seen a 133% increase on the number of families reaching out to us compared to January 2018. Last week alone we were in contact with eleven new families and began our triage process with three more who were referred to us through health professionals. Eight of these families have lost a child and six are families of a complexly poorly child or children, and we feel honoured to work with and walk beside them.
The increase in referrals is likely to be, at least in part, due to our continual effort to raise our profile in the spaces and places where these families can find us. One example of this was our meeting with another key school earlier this week where we met the fab staff team and some of their awesome pupils, all of whom have additional needs (192) and a large proportion are life-limited, with some on short and long term palliative care. They welcomed us wholeheartedly and we loved sharing what Reuben’s Retreat provides for families right now, but also what’s on the horizon…
So to our final but oh-so-exciting news…
Tomorrow Nicola and Robert (Trustee) will begin interviewing for our construction partner to carry out Phase 4, 5 & 6 works!! There’s been lots and lots of hard work and preparation to get to this point and tomorrow is a significant milestone, if the first of many for this mammoth project which we expect will begin in the Spring. Such exciting times ahead and we want to keep you updated but never want to bombard you, so please make sure you check in on our Facebook and Twitter pages for more updates.
Are you signed up for Misson123 yet?
We’re super excited to see what the 123 days from the 1st February will bring. We have teams already signed up who are developing some amazing fun ideas, from baking cheesecakes, dressing up as super-heroes for a day and even selling houses in return for donations!
Mission123 is our spring FUNraising campaign, where we’re asking people to form a team and start the challenge with a pound for every month of Reuben’s life (£23). The only rules during the next 123 days are to do something fun and to try and turn that into a bigger amount for us! (Via safe and legal activities!)
