We are pleased to announce that at 1150 hrs on Wednesday the 23rd of April 2014 Reuben’s Retreat purchased their forever home. At 1153 hrs Reuben’s Mummy received the call from Bromley’s Solicitor’s Paul W to advise that Reuben’s charity were now the proud owners of a property situated in parkland in the peak district.
Formerly known as “Woods hospital” the building dated back to 1889.
Substantially sized and encased in 1.63 acres, boasting over 21 bedrooms, wards and also a separate lodge.
This is a huge project to undertake, and the building lends itself to being refurbished in phases. Work commenced February 2015 on phase one, now fondly known as “The Lodge at Reuben’s” the retreat’s bereavement, support and counselling centre. The lodge opened it’s doors to beneficiaries in November 2015. In the same month, phase 2 was completed, the surrounding gardens.
2016 will see the charity make the building watertight, by carrying out a much needed full roof renovation including pointing and also a full damp proof course. It’s essential that these works are carried out to protect the building.
The next phases with be the hydrotherapy suite, sensory room, movie room and completion of the day care activity wing. Culminating in offices at the top of the West wing by the reception area.
Subject to funding, the building will then phase in a “Orangery” boasting a Victorian tea room, “Nannies at Reuben’s” giving the option to engage with the local community and also generate revenue.
The final phases will be accommodation, with the hope of phasing in 4 newly renovated and refurbished apartments for beneficiaries.
This is a huge multi-million pound 10 phase project, with a hope to be entirely up and running as soon as possible, subject to funding.
