Who can apply for a break or day trip?
Any family in the UK that has a child with a life limiting and/or a life threatening condition. We do have some conditions which allow us to ensure that every family has a chance of receiving a break:
- The child or young person with the life limiting/threatening illness must travel on the break or day trip
- The family must not have received a similar break/trip from another charity in the past year
- For children and young in remission we can provide a break up to 23 months after the remission diagnosis (after remission if your child is still classed as life limiting and/or life threatening the 23 month limit would not apply).
What breaks & day trips are available
Typically we can offer short breaks in caravans, lodges, holiday parks & cottages in the UK. For day trips we can arrange theme park tickets, train tickets & tickets to local attractions. In time Reuben’s Retreat will facilitate breaks at our premises in Glossop, Derbyshire, but until then we either purchase breaks using the charity’s own funds, allocate a break that has been kindly donated to us or invite families to stay at The Apartment at Reuben’s.
Is there a cost?
As a charity we do not currently charge for our breaks or day trips however as we run solely on donations if families are in a position to donate a small amount it would be very much appreciated.
We recommend that you take out cancellation insurance for any break, as if you have to cancel we will make a claim through your insurance to recover any cancellation costs that the charity incurs. Typically you can get cancellation cover from as little as just £8.00 for the whole family, please call for more information.
